4th of July Bilingual Blog Hop – Celebrating Independence Day

July 4, 2015 By Kelly Leave a Comment

#4thofjuly
I have celebrated the 4th of July in different ways – from hosting a simple BBQ to cooking 5 different types of tacos. However, times have changed a bit in the Lia-Serrano household and recipes look quite different nowadays.
There aren’t any more animal products consumed so meats (think hot dogs or steaks), dairy, or fish are out of the question. Yet, you will be surprised at the amazing things available in the plant-based world. Living with a vegan has been life changing in many good ways, and while I am not quite there (vegan 100%), I am happy to say that 4th of July is different indeed!
My family thinks that I am completamente loca and that I have lost my mind, but I am enjoying the changes a lot. The truth is, I rarely share many personal stories here on my blog – but once in a while would not harm anyone. Below is forecast of the conversation my sister and I would have about planning for the 4th:

Sister: “Everything is ready for the 4th. I have bought most of the ingredients for the BBQ. Oh wait, tu te vas a morir de hambre y no vas a comer nada. You do not eat anything anymore. You are going to get sick.”

Me: (insert eye roll here). “Sis, I will bring a couple of green salads, plus some soy-hot dogs. Plus, Vince is making an out-of-this-world dessert.”

Sister: “So, you are not going to eat anything!”

Me: “I just told you what I would bring.”

Sister: “Yeah, yeah…some lettuce. You cannot starve you know.”

Me: “Who is starving? Sis, relax – let’s enjoy the 4th. Everyone will have a great time and plenty to eat.”

Sister: “You should stop con tus locuras.”

Me: “I love you too sis. See you on the 4th.”

My sister and I being silly

Family…you love them no matter what. ¡Feliz día de la independencia de los Estados Unidos!
